SmartCARS 3 Setup Guide

This guide shows how to connect SmartCARS Community to your VA Nexus installation and where to place your VA Nexus API links inside the SmartCARS Community editor.

Before you begin

  • Your VA Nexus site should already be installed and working
  • Your domain should be live over HTTPS if possible
  • SmartCARS integration should be enabled in VA Nexus
  • You should know the base URL of your VA Nexus site

Step 1: Know your VA Nexus base URL

Your SmartCARS Community editor will need the public base URL for your VA Nexus install.

https://yourdomain.com

Replace yourdomain.com with your real VA Nexus URL.

Step 2: Open the SmartCARS Community editor

In your SmartCARS Community admin area, open the airline settings or API configuration area where you define the endpoints SmartCARS will use to communicate with your airline platform.

Important

The exact field names inside SmartCARS Community may vary slightly depending on the editor screen or version you are using, but the goal is the same: point SmartCARS to your VA Nexus endpoints.

Step 3: Enter your VA Nexus endpoint URLs

Use your VA Nexus domain and append the SmartCARS endpoints used by your integration.

Base API / Health URL

https://yourdomain.com/YOUR-SMARTCARS-ENDPOINT

Pilot Login URL

https://yourdomain.com/YOUR-SMARTCARS-LOGIN-ENDPOINT

Flight / Bid / Dispatch URL

https://yourdomain.com/YOUR-SMARTCARS-FLIGHT-ENDPOINT

PIREP Submit URL

https://yourdomain.com/YOUR-SMARTCARS-PIREP-ENDPOINT

Replace the placeholders

Replace each placeholder path above with the exact routes used by your VA Nexus SmartCARS integration.

Step 4: Save and test the connection

After entering the links in the SmartCARS Community editor, save the configuration and test pilot login. Then confirm that flights, bid retrieval, and PIREP submission are working correctly.

  • Test pilot login first
  • Confirm flights or bids load correctly
  • Start a test session
  • Submit a test PIREP

Common issues

404 or endpoint not found

Double-check the exact SmartCARS route path in your VA Nexus installation and make sure the URL is correct.

Pilot login fails

Make sure SmartCARS integration is enabled and that pilot credentials are being entered correctly.

SmartCARS cannot reach the site

Check your SSL, firewall rules, and whether the site is publicly reachable from outside your server.

PIREP submission does not complete

Recheck the submission endpoint and confirm your integration routes are active on the live site.

Recommended next step

Once you have the exact VA Nexus SmartCARS endpoint routes finalized, replace the placeholder URLs on this page so the documentation becomes a direct copy-and-paste setup guide.
